The New York Credit Union Association and the law firm Bond, Schoeneck & King PLLC will be offering a complimentary webinar on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 12:30 p.m. to explain the state’s new sexual harassment prevention requirements.

The webinar will address New York state’s guidance on these new requirements as well as:

  • what the new law requires employers to do and when;
  • how employers may need to change their policies; and
  • the requirements and best practices for harassment prevention training.

As previously reported in The Point, on April 12, Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law the 2019 New York State Budget, which included a provision updating the state’s sexual harassment laws.

Notably, the law stipulates that all New York employers—including federally and state-chartered credit unions—must provide sexual harassment training to all current employees by Jan. 1, 2019. Employees who begin working for a company after Jan. 1 must receive the training within 30 days of beginning employment. Additionally, employers will be required to provide employees with their policy in writing.

Last month, Cuomo’s administration released draft guidance on the legislation, which goes into effect Oct. 8.
